Walks and Trails

There are 2 walks at the park.  The Longmoor Lake walk is 0.9 miles long.

The Woodland Walk is 2.2 miles long. The Woodland Walk takes into the 8,000 year old Longmoor Bog on a specially constructed board walk. This is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest, due to it's abundance of rare sedges and mosses. This includes the Heathland, Longmoor Lake and woodland.

To find out more about these routes download California Country Park walks (PDF document).

Dam Improvement Works

Improvements to the Longmoor Lake dam at California Country Park will begin in late April. Wokingham Borough Council is rebuilding the spillway, which controls the release of water from the dam, to better control flooding during heavy rainfall.

As well as the improvements to the dam, there will also be some footpath improvements to allow easier access to the site of special scientific interest at Longmoor Bog.

Unfortunately the circular route around Longmoor Lake will be be closed at the north end of the lake from August to accommodate these improvements. At times there will be some disruption for those visiting while vehicles and materials are moved through the park to the work area.

Natural England and the Environment Agency have approved the work, which will have no detrimental impact on wildlife in the area. Work is being carried out by Sanctus Limited, while the council is being supported through the project by Jacobs, the appointed reservoir engineer for the council.

The dam works at California Country Park still has a few more weeks of repairs  to do before the contractors leave site.

The circular route footpath and actual spillway construction is now complete and the circular route and everglades walk way are open for general visitors.
