Parental supervision and Boat hire registration for under 18's
Children under 8 years old need to be supervised on the water by a parent or guardian. Between 8 and 16 years old, parents or guardians may supervise children from the shore. Parents and guardians need to be present to register 16 to 18 year olds before they go on the water, but otherwise do not need to supervise them.
Activity centre members receive 10% off our pay and play boat hire. Visit our membership page to find out more. CAN (Children with Additional Needs) card holders get 10% off our pay and play boat hire. This covers one carer per CAN card holder only and is subject to availability.

During busy periods and school summer we have limited availability for sailing dinghy hire. Please call the office on 0118 934 4424 to confirm that we will have capacity on the day.
We don't accept pre-bookings for boat hire, just turn up on the day. Generally during our busiest periods the maximum wait for a specific boat will be around 30 minutes.
How does the weather affect boat hire?
Pay and Play Boat Hire runs in all weathers. Boat hire will only close if lighting is seen or thunder heard in the immediate area, and will only reopen 30 minutes after the last lightning flash has been seen.
Hire of canoes and stand up paddleboard is subject to wind conditions – if the wind is constant at 12mph or gusting over 17mph they will not be allowed on the lake.
Hire of all boats will stop if the wind is at a constant of 20mph.
If you are concerned about the weather conditions, please contact the activity centre prior to coming down on 0118 934 4424.
When would I be eligible for a refund?
Should your boat hire session be cut short due to thunder and lighting, you will be offered the opportunity to go back out on the lake once safe to do so, or offered a refund.
Bring your own boat
You can launch your own non-powered craft or model boats onto the lake for £16 per day per boat during our operating hours (PDF document). Hire of PPE (helmet, wetsuit or life jacket) is £4pp.
Inflatable craft will need to have at least two sponsons and everyone on the water needs to be wearing a buoyancy aid or lifejacket. Paddleboard users can use a leash instead.
If you are launching your boat regularly, or wish to launch outside our operating hours, you may wish to sign up as a member for free launching. You can find out more on our membership page.
